To the editor,
As longtime residents of Jefferson, we are filled with immense pride at the positive achievements happening here! So much has been accomplished in our community, especially in the last decade, to make it attractive and welcoming. The culture here in Jefferson is one of collaboration to reach shared goals. We’d like to see that forward momentum continue!
Our city leadership has worked together with business and property owners, organizations, Jefferson Matters, investors, developers and others to bring about desirable results that are beneficial to the community. The experience, knowledge, dedication and vision of our City Council is largely responsible for these positive strides.
Others also recognize what a great community Jefferson is! Numerous honors have been awarded to the city recently including being named a 2025 “All-Star Community”by the Iowa League of Cities: a 2024 “Thriving Community” by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Finance Authority; and the 2024 “Tourism Community of the Year” by Travel Iowa. Many more have been awarded to Jefferson Matters and others. These accolades don’t just happen. They are competitive and are awarded based on merit. They bring people to town to spend money on food, gas and attractions. Jefferson is doing things RIGHT!
Serving on the City Council is more than just two livestreamed meetings a month! Countless hours of study, analysis and group effort are necessary and part of the commitment to serve in this capacity. This is certainly not always easy and it is vital that Council members “show up” to do their work.
Our incumbent Council members Harry Ahrenholtz and Darren Jackson have proved that they can indeed fulfill the responsibilities of this role as true servants to the city and its residents. They can be counted on to give due consideration and devotion to the betterment of Jefferson.
Candidate Luke Winkelman has already demonstrated sincere interest in pursuing understanding of city issues and challenges. He not only “shows up,” but he also “studies up!”
We believe support of these candidates will ensure that our community stays on a course of positive growth and development for years to come!
Thank you for your support of Harry Ahrenholtz, Darren Jackson and Luke Winkelman.
